Vivo’s X Fold 6: A Nostalgic Hint of Past Mobile Innovations
Vivo has launched its latest foldable device, the X Fold 6, initially seen in China last June. While it arrived amid a wave of foldable devices, its design feels somewhat outdated as it gears up for a broader global release.
The X Fold 6 retains a similar size to Vivo’s previous models, aligning with the dimensions of other foldables that came out prior to key players like Apple and Samsung adopting a shorter and wider format with their latest offerings, the Z Fold 8 and iPhone Duo. The device features a 6.51-inch cover display that adheres to the traditional 20:9 aspect ratio, which then unfolds into an almost square 8.02-inch screen. Notably, the visible crease in the display puts it a step behind its competitors, and while its IP59 rating is decent, it’s not particularly remarkable.
However, the standout feature of the X Fold 6 lies in its camera capabilities. Its main camera boasts a sizable 1/1.4-inch-type, 200-megapixel sensor, making it one of the largest in the foldable market, surpassed only by offerings from Huawei. Additionally, it comes equipped with 50-megapixel telephoto and ultrawide cameras, both of which promise solid performance. The device includes a robust 6,900mAh battery and is powered by a special iteration of the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chip.
The global release of the X Fold 6 is currently underway; however, Vivo has yet to disclose the pricing and specific markets for this device. An update will follow once that information becomes available. As the excitement builds, a thorough examination of its camera setup is anticipated, particularly given its potential to outperform many existing foldable cameras.

Editor’s Take
The launch of the Vivo X Fold 6 is a significant development in the foldable smartphone market. While it may not introduce a revolutionary design, its impressive camera specifications highlight the ongoing trend of prioritizing photography in mobile technology. This could push competitors to further innovate in both aesthetics and functionality, ultimately benefitting consumers who seek high-quality imaging capabilities. As the global landscape for foldables continues to evolve, the X Fold 6 could play a crucial role in shaping user expectations.
