Trial Update: Security Video of Jesse Baird Found on Beau Lamarre-Condon’s Phone
A series of testimonies were presented in court on Wednesday as key witnesses, including former partners of Jesse Baird and past colleagues of Beau Lamarre-Condon, shared their insights.
Corey-Dean Thorpe, who had a five-year relationship with Baird before his move from Brisbane to Sydney for a position at Channel Ten, provided crucial information. Despite their separation, the two maintained frequent communication, speaking nearly every day.
In a crucial phone call on November 16, 2023—just three months prior to the alleged murders—Mr. Thorpe noted that Baird sounded “petrified” when discussing Lamarre-Condon. “I had never heard such fear in his voice before,” Mr. Thorpe recounted, indicating that Baird had expressed repeated concerns about Lamarre-Condon having a firearm.
According to Mr. Thorpe, Baird revealed distressing incidents of Lamarre-Condon allegedly accessing his phone to delete messages and ‘unfollow gay men’ on social media. Mr. Thorpe also recalled Baird speaking about a night when he discovered Lamarre-Condon in his bedroom, which intensified Baird’s anxiety about approaching law enforcement.
Two Channel Ten staff members became visibly emotional while providing their testimonies later in the day. Briony Blackstone, a freelance producer who worked alongside Baird, expressed her admiration for him. She had noted Baird’s unusual agitation at work, prompting her to inquire about his well-being. Baird had confided in her regarding his troubling experiences with Lamarre-Condon, which contributed to her concerns.
Ms. Blackstone noted that Baird characterized Lamarre-Condon’s behavior as possibly stalker-like, indicating he had reservations about the relationship. “I probably like his dog better than him,” Baird allegedly remarked about Lamarre-Condon.
Another witness, Damon Wilson, recounted his brief dating experience with Lamarre-Condon in August 2023. After starting to see Baird, Wilson observed Lamarre-Condon’s social media activity, which included posting videos and images suggesting a relationship with Baird—albeit without Baird’s knowledge.
On November 18, Lamarre-Condon sent a lengthy message to Wilson, alleging that Baird was deceitful and engaged in mental manipulation. Lamarre-Condon described numerous encounters where he felt misled by Baird, suggesting a troubling pattern of behavior.
Furthermore, a former acquaintance of Lamarre-Condon, also an officer, testified that Lamarre-Condon had fabricated a dating profile to monitor Baird, even taking him on a drive through Baird’s neighborhood.
This has added to the intense narrative surrounding the trial and calls into question issues of power dynamics, access to firearms, and the implications of such relationships.
Editor’s Take
This trial highlights the complexities of interpersonal relationships, especially when one party is affiliated with law enforcement. The implications of these findings extend beyond individual lives and raise critical discussions about safety, trust, and accountability within communities. It serves as a reminder of the vital need for transparency and support systems for individuals in vulnerable situations.
