Sonos Unveils Major App Update with New Features and AI Assistant

Sonos is set to enhance its app experience with a significant update that introduces new Presets and grants users early access to its innovative AI voice assistant known as Sonos 27. This update enables users to create personalized presets, allowing for seamless music playback at designated volumes in specific rooms. These presets will be conveniently located on the homescreen for quick access, facilitating an effortless listening experience.

Beginning on November 6, users in the US can sign up for a waitlist to gain access to the Sonos 27 voice assistant, with the launch of the service commencing on November 12.

As previously teased by Sonos, the voice assistant will assist users with a variety of commands such as playing music, transferring playback between rooms, grouping or ungrouping speakers, and even setting timers. Furthermore, it will offer advanced functionalities to handle more nuanced requests, demonstrating its capacity to understand natural language. Users can say phrases like, “Play the album with a sardine tin on the cover,” or “Who was the singer at the Super Bowl? Play their latest album in the hallway,” showcasing the AI’s intelligent response capabilities.

The latest update also brings several enhancements to the Sonos app, which include the ability to swipe on the “Now Playing” screen or mini player for easy track skipping, along with an option to rearrange favorites. Additionally, the app will integrate with an exclusive System Health feature for iOS, aimed at helping users identify issues within their audio setups.
