Motorola’s Signature 27: Premium Features at a $1,600 Price Point
Motorola Unveils the Signature 27 with Advanced AI Features
Motorola has announced the Signature 27, its latest smartphone that promises to deliver a robust array of AI capabilities powered by Gemini Intelligence. Among the anticipated features are Google’s agentic app control, the innovative Create My Widget, Sign-to-Text, and Rambler voice input. Although these capabilities are impressive, they will not be available upon launch and are expected to roll out over the upcoming months, with most currently being exclusive to Pixel devices.
In addition to the new capabilities tied to Gemini, Motorola continues to support a suite of AI functionalities under the Motorola Qira platform. Features like Catch Me Up, which summarizes notifications, and Pay Attention, which focuses on meeting notes, remain available. Interestingly, the company has moved away from the previous Moto AI branding.
For those seeking a less conventional approach, the Signature 27 marks a significant shift as it becomes the first Motorola device developed in partnership with GrapheneOS. This privacy-oriented operating system is built on Android but notably excludes Google apps and associated tracking functionalities, providing users with a high level of privacy.
Motorola has clarified that the Signature 27 will not be shipped with GrapheneOS pre-installed; buyers will have the option to install it themselves later, likely following a process similar to that used for Pixel devices, which includes unlocking the bootloader and flashing the software.
The pricing for the Signature 27 positions it in the premium segment, retailing at $1,599.99. This places it above flagship offerings from both Samsung and Apple, and only $300 less than foldable models such as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Motorola’s own Razr Fold, both priced at around $1,900. Compared with the iPhone Duo, which is only $400 more expensive, the Signature 27 is indeed a significant investment.
At this point, Motorola has yet to announce any carrier partnerships for the device, meaning that interested consumers will need to purchase the Signature 27 directly from Motorola, Best Buy, or Amazon. The official sale date is set for November 26, with preorders beginning on November 19.
Editor’s Take
This announcement is pivotal as it underscores Motorola’s commitment to integrating advanced AI functionalities while offering a choice of operating systems. For users who prioritize privacy, the addition of GrapheneOS could reshape their smartphone experience. Meanwhile, the premium pricing may challenge Motorola in reaching a wider audience amidst strong competition.
