Man Killed by Tiger at Yorkshire Zoo After Dancing Before Entering Enclosure, Witnesses Report
In a tragic incident at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, a man was killed after climbing into a Siberian tiger enclosure and being attacked by a tiger weighing 30 stone, named Altai. This horrifying event unfolded on Saturday, capturing the attention of visitors, some of whom witnessed the scene unfold from nearby.
Eyewitnesses reported that the man, believed to be in his 20s, displayed erratic behavior before the incident, even performing a dance in the spectator area. Witness accounts indicate that he was quickly seized by the tiger once he scaled the fence, with the animal reportedly grabbing him by the throat within seconds.
Footage shared online captured the tiger circling the man on the grass as he cried out in desperation, pleading with the animal. Observers could be heard shouting to distract the tiger, while zoo keepers responded swiftly, using gas-powered acoustic guns in an attempt to drive the predator away.
Despite the arrival of Yorkshire Ambulance Service, which dispatched multiple ambulances and an air ambulance equipped with blood transfusion kits, emergency personnel were unable to save the man. South Yorkshire Police confirmed that he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Authorities arrived at the park around 1:35 PM after receiving reports of the man’s intrusion. A police statement revealed that the tiger subsequently attacked him, leading to fatal injuries. Despite emergency services’ valiant effort, the man was pronounced dead at the scene, and officers confirmed that his family is being supported during this difficult time.
Police have urged the public to refrain from sharing videos of the attack, while confirming that the tiger remained unharmed in its enclosure. Additionally, Yorkshire Wildlife Park stated that there was no further risk to the public and emphasized their commitment to working closely with the authorities to investigate the events.
The park, situated near Doncaster, has been a popular wildlife attraction since its opening in 2009, featuring a specially designed area for Siberian tigers. This tragic incident echoes a previous incident earlier this year involving a young child and a crocodile, raising ongoing concerns about safety within wildlife attractions.
Editor’s Take
This incident emphasizes the critical importance of safety protocols at wildlife parks. The breach of enclosure can lead not only to tragic outcomes but also to significant public concern regarding animal handling and visitor protection. Moving forward, the incident may prompt stricter regulations and enhanced safety measures within similar establishments to prevent a recurrence.
