Edge Early Learning Enters Voluntary Administration, Leaving Parents in Distress

In a significant development for the childcare sector, Edge Early Learning has entered voluntary administration, impacting approximately 70 childcare centers across Australia. This decision has raised concerns among families who depend on the organization for their children’s care.

In an official statement released on Wednesday, the company acknowledged the potential confusion and stress this situation might cause for parents. They assured families that the administration process aims to minimize disruption to services while supporting the center staff.

Despite the administration, Edge Early Learning plans to maintain operations as usual across its facilities in regions including Queensland, South Australia, and the ACT. However, the company noted that certain activities may be reassessed.

“Where possible, planned activities and events will continue,” the company stated in a communication to parents. “However, some activities may need adjustments during the administration process, and families will be informed of any changes.”

Parents can expect fees to remain unchanged, with direct debit transactions scheduled as usual and no modifications to Child Care Subsidy entitlements.

The appointment of Craig Shepard, David Johnstone, and Stacey Clisby from KordaMentha as voluntary administrators has been confirmed. They will be conducting a thorough assessment of the company’s financial situation and will provide further updates to families subsequently.

This situation follows serious accusations made nearly a year ago against Edge Early Learning, wherein a whistleblower reported alarming safety and supervision failures at one of its Adelaide Centers. According to the anonymous source, incidents included children wandering onto busy roads without subsequent notifications being made to parents.

On the same day as the announcement regarding Edge, the Avondale Heights Child Care and Early Learning Centre in Melbourne’s north-west was dissolved, leaving parents scrambling for alternative childcare after being informed late in the evening.
