PHP Announces Imminent Release of Two Critical Emergency Security Patches

Urgent Security Patches Coming for PHP Users

Website administrators should prepare for imminent updates as the maintainers of PHP have announced plans to release critical security patches in just over 12 hours. These vulnerabilities are being considered particularly severe, reflecting ratings of 9.2 out of a maximum of 10.

On Monday, the PHP maintainers urged all users to get ready for immediate upgrades upon the release of the corrections. The advisory indicates, “We reserve the right to release earlier should details of either vulnerability become public, or if we detect active exploitation attempts.”

Concerns Over PHP2Shell Exploit Tool

The forthcoming patches come in the wake of leaked information regarding a tool referred to as PHP2Shell. The details surrounding these vulnerabilities remain unconfirmed, yet reports include a video demonstrating the exploit tool executing code on various web applications—including popular platforms like WordPress, MediaWiki, phpBB, Magento, Joomla, Laravel, Symphony, Drupal, and WHMCS?—all of which rely on PHP.

Efforts to verify the unconfirmed reports have been unsuccessful. However, security firm watchTowr asserts that these vulnerabilities impact every version of PHP dating back to version 5, released in 2004. They’ve labeled the vulnerabilities as CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619, claiming their authenticity.

Editor’s Take

This development signals significant risks for countless websites that rely on PHP. The high severity ratings of the vulnerabilities indicate that exploitation could lead to serious security breaches. Users and developers alike need to prioritize upgrades to safeguard their applications and data. In an era where digital security is paramount, timely updates are not just recommended—they’re essential.
