Christian Horner Credits Daughter’s Strength with Overcoming Red Bull Departure
Christian Horner, the former team principal of Red Bull Racing, recently shared a deeply personal experience about how his 11-year-old daughter, Olivia, helped him navigate a turbulent period in his life. This revelation came shortly after Horner faced the shock of losing his job, merely a week after the passing of Olivia’s mother, Beverley Allen, due to eye cancer.
During an appearance on the High Performance podcast hosted by Jake Humphrey, Horner recalled attending Olivia’s end-of-year awards ceremony shortly after his dismissal. He had spent two decades with Red Bull and was reportedly entitled to a payout near £67 million following his abrupt departure. At the event, he watched his daughter bravely take the stage, despite her recent loss. Reflecting on this, he stated, “If she’s got the bravery to do that, then what I’m dealing with is nothing.”
Horner mentioned that his colleagues were unaware of his recent personal turmoil, and the media had not yet reported on his sacking. This moment with Olivia provided him with a new perspective. “That—on a day that my world had fallen apart—gave me the light to go, if she can stand up there and do that, then there’s nothing that you can’t do,” he remarked.
The former Formula One leader emphasized the importance of expressing his pride in Olivia, stating, “I tell her every day. I think that’s important.” His dismissal from Red Bull came in July 2025 as the company chose to pursue a different direction, marking the end of a significant chapter in his career that included overseeing 14 championship titles.
New financial documents revealed that Horner received around £66.988 million as part of his severance, contributing to a total package exceeding £76 million when including additional compensation.
Reflecting on his career, Horner described his initial feelings post-dismissal as a mix of relief and resentment. Despite the team’s outward success, he admitted to growing discontent and frustration, telling his listeners that “inevitably you take it out on your partner or the people that you love most.”
His wife, Geri Halliwell, previously voiced concerns about the toll Horner’s work was taking on him, noting that he seemed increasingly unhappy even amidst the team’s numerous victories. She had warned him that he might not be valued by his colleagues, an insight he reluctantly acknowledged.
Horner and Halliwell faced significant public scrutiny following allegations against him, all of which he denied, with subsequent investigations clearing him of wrongdoing. Geri stood by him through these challenges, exhibiting unwavering support as he navigated the complexities of both his personal and professional life.
Despite the lucrative severance, Horner initially harbored a desire for retribution towards Red Bull. However, as he spent more time with his family, particularly during their shared grief, he found greater appreciation for the moments he had long missed due to the demands of his job. Now, he cherishes attending his children’s activities and being present for important milestones—time he views as a valuable gift.
