Meta Releases Open Source Code for Developing Muse AI Gadgets

Meta has introduced a new way for users to create custom devices using its innovative Muse AI technology, now available through an open-source approach. The development allows enthusiasts to explore various projects, such as integrating Muse into a color E Ink display for reminders, adapting it for an HDMI stick to showcase on larger screens, or even crafting a DIY device resembling a Muse Charm with a touchscreen interface.

According to Meta, “Muse gadgets are open source devices you build yourself.” Users can program popular hardware like an ESP32 board or a Raspberry Pi using the company’s software development kits (SDKs). This opens up opportunities to connect Muse with different displays, buttons, sensors, and actuators available to tech-savvy users. However, Meta has advised caution, urging creators to “Proceed at your own risk!”

Additionally, the company is offering a limited giveaway of its own Muse Home Link gadget. This device empowers users to operate various functions such as switching on lights, managing TV controls, and sending documents to printers through community-built skills. Meta has produced 5,000 units of this gadget, as noted by Nat Friedman from Meta Superintelligence Labs, and individuals can join a waitlist now to receive the device, with shipping expected later this month.

Editor’s Take

This move by Meta signifies a pivotal shift towards democratizing AI technology. By encouraging users to build their own devices, it fosters innovation and creativity within the tech community. Such initiatives could empower developers to create tailored solutions, enriching user experiences across various applications. Ultimately, this could lead to wider adoption of AI technologies in everyday life.
