Fairphone to Launch New Repairable Wireless Earbuds on October 14
Fairphone is set to unveil its latest innovation, the Fairbuds 2, on October 14th. This new iteration will continue the company’s commitment to sustainability, featuring “seven fully replaceable and modular parts” that made the original Fairbuds renowned for their repairability. In addition to enhancing the product’s longevity, the Fairbuds 2 will introduce expanded Bluetooth capabilities, now supporting Sony’s high-resolution and adaptive LDAC codec. The original model was limited to the SBC and AAC codecs, akin to the functionalities of Apple’s AirPods.
The Fairbuds 2 will initially launch in Europe with a price tag of €119, followed by a release in the United States priced at $119. This is a notable decrease compared to the first-generation Fairbuds, which debuted at €149 (approximately $162) in 2024 but have since dropped to a current price of $99.99 in the U.S.
Editor’s Take
This launch is significant as it underscores Fairphone‘s ongoing commitment to sustainable technology, appealing to eco-conscious consumers. By incorporating advanced audio codecs, the Fairbuds 2 not only enhance user experience but also set a benchmark for future devices. This refresh demonstrates how tech companies can prioritize repairability without compromising on features, a shift that may influence competitors in the industry.
