Bentley Unveils Its Lightest Model Since 1941: The Supersports
Bentley has introduced the latest iteration of its engineering excellence with the release of the Supersports, a car that blends luxury and performance seamlessly. This model showcases a refined version of Bentley’s renowned 4.0 L V8 engine, enhanced with a strengthened engine block, upgraded cylinder heads, and larger turbochargers. While the Supersports boasts 657 hp (490 kW) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm), it may not be the most powerful Bentley in history, yet it certainly targets a more engaging driving experience.
The Supersports incorporates a sophisticated suspension system, featuring 48 V active anti-roll bars capable of reacting in just a third of a second. It offers up to 960 lb-ft (1,300 Nm) of reaction torque to enhance stability, making cornering significantly more precise. Its twin-valve dampers and air suspension have been recalibrated for optimal performance in Touring, Bentley, and Sport modes, and when equipped with the optional Pirelli Trofeo RS tires, the vehicle can achieve a remarkable 1.3 Gs during cornering.
Aesthetically, the Supersports is as impressive as its technical specifications. As it navigates the legendary Laguna Seca’s corners, now officially renamed the “Zanardi Corkscrew,” the car’s lightweight carbon-fiber roof contributes to a lower center of gravity, although its performance-boosting aerodynamic features are prominent. These include a front splitter, winglets positioned before and after the wheels, and an imposing carbon-fiber rear spoiler paired with a diffuser, all working in harmony to enhance downforce.
According to Bentley, the Supersports generates an impressive 661 lbs (300 kg) more downforce compared to last year’s Continental GT Speed, with a rearward aero balance that sharpens as speed increases, moving from a starting point of 54:46.
Stepping inside the cockpit, the Supersports continues to impress. The extensive use of carbon-fiber on the dashboard pairs well with the comfortable sports seats that offer substantial electric adjustments. These seats secure the driver firmly during spirited driving, proving effective even on undulating surfaces. Weighing in at less than 4,407 lbs (1,999 kg), this iteration is the lightest Bentley in 85 years, providing a substantial yet agile driving experience.
